Field Imaging Spectroscopy of Beech Seedlings under Dryness Stress
نویسندگان
چکیده
In order to monitor dryness stress under controlled conditions, we set up an experiment with beech seedlings in plant pots and built a platform for observing the seedlings with field imaging spectroscopy. This serves as a preparation for multi-temporal hyperspectral airand space-borne data expected to be available in coming years. Half of the trees were watered throughout the year; the other half were cut off from water supply for a five-week period in late summer. Plant health and soil, as well as leaf water status, were monitored. Moreover, hyperspectral images of the trees were acquired four times during the experiment. Results show that the experimental imaging setup is well suited for recording hyperspectral images of objects, like the beech pots, under natural illumination conditions. The high spatial resolution makes it feasible to discern between background, soil, wood, green leaves and brown leaves. Furthermore, it could be shown that dryness stress is detectable from an early stage even in the limited spectral range considered. The decline of leaf chlorophyll over time was also well monitored using imaging spectroscopy data.

Variation in Ecophysiological Traits and Drought Tolerance of Beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) Seedlings from Different Populations
Frequency and intensity of heat waves and drought events are expected to increase in Europe due to climate change. European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) is one of the most important native tree species in Europe. Beech populations originating throughout its native range were selected for common-garden experiments with the aim to determine whether there are functional variations in drought stress ...
متن کاملClimate Change Impairs Nitrogen Cycling in European Beech Forests
European beech forests growing on marginal calcareous soils have been proposed to be vulnerable to decreased soil water availability. This could result in a large-scale loss of ecological services and economical value in a changing climate. In order to evaluate the potential consequences of this drought-sensitivity, we investigated potential species range shifts for European beech forests on ca...

In order to study the effect of seed priming with salicylic acid (SA) and jasmonic acid (JA) on emergence and early growth of pumpkin (Cucurbita pepo L.) seedlings under drought stress condition, a factorial experiment based on randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four replications was conducted at the greenhouse of Malayer university. Experimental treatments were seed priming with sal...

Salinity is one of the most important abiotic stresses that have restricted affects on plant growth and yield. Magnetic field can ameliorate the negative effect of salinity with induction of plant antioxidant activity. In present research, the effect of static magnetic fields (0 anf 4 mT) on some physiological parameters and antioxidative capacity were investigated under salinity stress at conc...

Despite the ecological and economic importance of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) genomic resources of this species are still limited. This hampers an understanding of the molecular basis of adaptation to stress. Since beech will most likely be threatened by the consequences of climate change, an understanding of adaptive processes to climate change-related drought stress is of major import...
